The Company that received the profit from the Seleção friendlies did not exist physically
Uptrend was said to be created in march 2006, in Cherry Hill
GENEVA – The company that received almost a third of the profits from each Seleção friendly, Uptrend Development, never existed physically in the address given in it’s official registry. Documents obtained by Estado reveal that Uptrend had as its representative that current FC Barcelona president, Sandro Rosell, and was situated in the small city of Cherry Hill, 140Km from New York in the state of New Jersey.
The address belongs to a company that rent rooms so that other companies have meetings, and also offers services that allow companies to exist only virtually. The address is rented and a secretary is provided to pick up the phone. But she works for several companies that make use of the same service.
In the registry’s address, Rosell’s company was supposed to be located in office 105 on Church Road, number 811. According to the company that rents the place, office 105 is just a conference room that any group, businessman or any person can rent to use for a day. “This company did not exist physically”, said the secretary, who asked not to be named. “I’ve been working here for 10 years”, she insisted.
According to other documents, Uptrend was created in march 2006, already on the address in this 69 thousand inhabitants city in New Jersey. In november 2006, it would close a contract worth more than 8,3 million euros to provide marketing services and promotion of 24 Seleção friendlies. The companies registry would be cancelled in april 2013.
On thursday (15/08), Estado’s report revealed that the scheme was designed to embezzle the profits from the Seleção friendlies. The building that hosted that supposed company was called Tarragon Office Center. In Catalunya, Tarragona is one of the main cities.
FC Barcelona’s press department did not answer this reporter’s contacts to explain the accusations. To the spanish media, the club only said it would not release any statements.
